Affiliate Opportunity Score (AOS)

The Affiliate Opportunity Score is our proprietary metric that combines four key components into a single 0-100 score. Higher scores indicate better overall opportunity considering demand, intent, competition, and monetization potential.

AOS = (Demand × 0.30) + (Intent × 0.25) + (Competition × 0.25) + (Monetization × 0.20)

Each component is normalized to a 0-100 scale before being weighted and combined. This allows for fair comparison across different keywords and niches.

Score Components Explained

📈 Demand Score (30%)

Measures search volume and trend direction. We analyze monthly search volume and compare it to historical trends to identify growing versus declining markets.

  • Monthly search volume (primary factor)
  • Trend direction (rising, stable, declining)
  • Seasonality patterns

🎯 Intent Score (25%)

Evaluates commercial and transactional intent signals. Not all search traffic converts the intent score helps identify keywords with buyer intent.

  • Cost-per-click (CPC) as a proxy for commercial value
  • Keyword modifiers (best, review, vs, buy)
  • Intent classification (informational vs. commercial)

⚔️ Competition Score (25%)

Assesses how difficult it is to rank for target keywords. Lower competition translates to higher scores, favoring niches where new content can realistically rank.

  • Keyword difficulty (inverted - lower KD = higher score)
  • SERP feature presence
  • Domain authority of top results

💰 Monetization Score (20%)

Evaluates affiliate program availability and earnings potential. This is where we differ from traditional SEO tools.

  • Commission rate (percentage or flat)
  • Cookie duration (longer = better)
  • Average order value
  • Program reliability and reputation

Niche-Level Scoring

At the niche level, we aggregate keyword-level data and add additional metrics specific to the niche as a whole.

Niche Score = (Avg Demand × 0.30) + (Avg Monetization × 0.30) + (Program Density × 0.20) + (Ease of Competition × 0.20)

Program Density measures how many affiliate programs exist in a niche. More programs generally indicate a healthy, monetizable market.

Ease of Competition is calculated from sampled keywords and represents how accessible the niche is for new entrants.

Classification System

Based on the niche score, we automatically classify each niche into one of four buckets:

Classification Score Range Meaning
High Opportunity 75 - 100 Strong signals across all dimensions. Prioritize these niches.
Opportunity 55 - 74 Worth investigating further. Good potential with some caveats.
Low Signal 35 - 54 Weak or mixed data. Proceed with caution and more research.
Saturated/Hard 0 - 34 High competition or poor monetization. Generally avoid.
